4december

This is an example of processing the virtools cells into an actual configuration of a building block (in Rhino).
One cell represents one unit.

I'm at the moment developing the network rules, for the infrastructure.

I have now implemented the first quality definitions of the cells in the Virtools model.

The topology of the cells should be defined for that reason I have made various models of housing topologies that can be combined into many different options. The image shows how these topologies would look in the Virtools model, and then how they would work 'physically', the green tube pushing things aside to make light enter.

Emergent Neigbourhood

First post on my graduation project. (still under construction)

far above: favela in Rio de Janeiro, above: screenshot of the neighbourhood model with emerging routes.

I'm working on an urban plan for a neighbourhood in Querétaro, Mexico. I use principles of emergent behaviour, which for example occurs in flocking of birds, or the organisation of an informal neighbourhood. These systems are built from small elements, that interact with their direct environment following simple rules.

I'm setting up rules now, to create a configuration for about 500 dwelling units. The current model contains some basic rules, for example the units cannot touch each other, and they cannot be on top of units with a public function (square or park).

above: Screenshot of the current model. The units organizing themselves around the public squares/parks, and forming infrastructural links(green dots), defined by the desires of the inhabitants of the units.
